The client had owned this beautiful 1940's Beverly Hills traditional for over 20 years and the kitchen needed to be updated. A team consisting of an architect, and kitchen planner insisted that he needed to add space to the existing foot print. Luckily he would not commit to what would have ostensibly changed the character of the house, and he asked, SWDA to take a shot. We analyzed the space and made a case to leave foot print as is and simply rework the spaces that already existed. He agreed to this strategy and SWDA was then solely enlisted to design the laundry, butler pantry and kitchen, into updated, highly functional spaces. All of the moldings and cabinets are custom designed specifically for this project, using details from other areas of the house as reference. The kitchen and service areas, are now the heart of the home and though very contemporary in functionality, you walk into these spaces and believe that they have always been as such. We also designed his daughter's bedroom and bathroom, designed closets for the lady of the house, reworked the basement into a pleasant storage area, specified the pool furniture, and was available for any freshening the house needed over the ten year period we were involved.
